When manufacturing slabs, sheet metal and foils, the key requirement is to accurately maintain the manufacturing tolerance while the rolling mills are in operation. A dynamic hydraulic automatic gauge control system is then essential for the continuous positioning and maintenance of the specified gap between work rolls. With Van Halteren Technologies’ large hydraulic cylinders, equipped with an internal MTS measuring system, the highest precision is realized to within a few hundredths of a millimeter. This allows the cylinder to stay accurately positioned, even when experiencing outside disturbances and counter forces.

Newly created technological methods for surface technologies, have replaced old technologies, like plasma sprayed Ceramax. Laser cladded, thermal spraying and overlay welding have become the standard. Together, these in-house technologies form Van Halteren Technologies’ brand name for rod coatings: Enduroq.

We have developed a Seal Matrix for all kinds of applications and piston rod surfaces.

The most critical aspect of cylinders is the combination of different technologies. Optimal interaction between rod surface, hydraulic fluid and seal configuration is essential. Tribology analyzes the friction, lubrication and wear of interacting surfaces in relative motion, guaranteeing improved lifetime.

Fully integrated in the hydraulic cylinder, CIMS requires the application of the CIMS profile beneath the rod surface. The CIMS measuring system works in every environmental situation, such as dredging vessels, offshore platforms, ship loading and unloading systems, tunneling machines and bridges.

  • Automatic Gauge Control Cylinders

    Automatic gauge control cylinders in metallurgy applications are hydraulic or pneumatic devices that precisely adjust the thickness of metal sheets or strips during the rolling process.

  • Ladle Turret Cylinders

    During continuous casting processes, in which semi-finished billet, bloom or slab is being produced, the teeming ladle plays a vital role in handling the molten metal. The ladle turret facilitates the transportation of the teeming ladles through the mill.   • Non-Ferrous Casting Cylinders

    In foundries where a non-ferrous casting process is being used, liquid metal is poured into a mold. This method is mostly suitable for small to medium sized parts in which complex shapes are formed. When it comes to water cooled billet casting, Van Halteren Technologies’ large hydraulic cylinders are used to move the mold. These cylinders operate while submerged in water.
