For the first time in 46 years, the Royal Netherlands Navy has ordered a new class of submarines, with the official contract signed on September 30th by Staatssecretaris van Defensie – Gijs Tuinman and NAVAL GROUP CEO Pierre Éric Pommellet.
What makes this project particularly historic is that it marks the first time in over 120 years that Dutch submarines will be built by a foreign shipyard, France’s Naval Group. With a budget of over 5 billion euros for four submarines, the Orka Class will enhance the defense capabilities of the Netherlands. The project also establishes a foundation for industrial cooperation that will strengthen the Dutch Naval Industry.
Van Halteren Technologies is proud to partner with Naval Group on this vital project for the Royal Netherlands Navy. Van Halteren Technologies Boxtel B.V. will deliver hydraulic systems, while our team of Van Halteren Naval Technologies B.V. will provide fancoils and refrigeration units for the new Orka Class submarines.
