What is Solid Replenishment at Sea?

Solid Replenishment at Sea (RAS-S), also referred to as Solid Stores Replenishment and part of Connected Replenishment (CONREP) or Underway Replenishment (UNREP), enables naval vessels to receive mission-critical cargo without returning to port. During an abeam STREAM or highline operation, tensioned transfer equipment moves stores between the supplying and receiving vessel while both remain underway.

The system must support controlled load movement despite relative vessel motion, wind and sea-state effects while enabling safe rigging, transfer, recovery and breakaway procedures.

By replenishing at sea, fleets can remain operational for extended periods without returning to port, enabling task groups to sustain missions, maintain a continuous presence, and extend operational reach wherever required.

Equipment used in RAS-S operations

A RAS-S installation typically includes a highline , transfer rigs, traveller or trolley assemblies, inhaul and outhaul winches, tensioning systems , controls, monitoring and receiving-station components.
